Brothers Martin and Kobus van Rensburg had very successful careers at Nissan South Africa before they started MAUS Performance. Martin managed the Technical Training Centre and was responsible for both employee and dealer staff training. Kobus was involved in the very successful Motorsport Department, and worked specifically on the Nissan Skyline Rally vehicle, building and developing the competition engines, enhancing the power output. The success of the Skyline Rally Cars in the 1980`s speaks for itself – Nissan not only clinched the Class B title on more than one occasion, but also clinched the SA Rally Championship title.
After spending some thirteen years at Nissan, Kobus and Martin chose to start their own venture and formed MAUS performance in 1989. The Company name is derived from the van Rensburg brother`s first names – MArtin & KobUS – hence MAUS. Incidentally maus is the German word for mouse, hence the logo of a mouse on wheels. Initially MAUS specialised in the conversion and tuning of Nissan engines in particular, however, demand soon saw the duo including a wide range of vehicles from almost every manufacturer in South Africa.
With exceptional technical expertise MAUS have assisted numerous motorsport teams in enhancing and maintaining the performance of their vehicles over the years, and has inspired victory at many occasions. The motor manufacturing industry’s confidence in MAUS's ability to enhance the performance of vehicles without compromising its integrity was illustrated by Nissan South Africa’s selection of MAUS in the late 1990’s to convert their standard 2.4l LDV engine into a high performance engine for use in the last series of Nissan Sani’s. This project has seen MAUS converting hundreds of these vehicles on behalf of Nissan South Africa, without affecting the manufacturer's warranty.
The specialized nature of MAUS's business has culminated in a workshop which is equipped with technologically advanced equipment which is not available at the run of the mill vehicle service centres. The race bred technical expertise and professional service, makes MAUS qualified to work on every make and model of vehicle. Whether you want to transform your workhorse into a racehorse, increase your vehicles towing ability, or maintain your pride and joy in perfect operating order, MAUS is committed to exceed your highest expectations.
Considering the fact that vehicles are mass produced, manufacturer's specified settings are general guidelines and does not consider each engines individual characteristics. Dyna-tuning is the process whereby the engine settings are adjusted (tuned) while continuously monitoring the performance during the adjustment, in order to obtain the position of optimum performance. Dyna-tuning optimizes your engines operating parameters, ensuring optimum performance and efficiency. ..
We always think of increasing the power of the vehicle to gain speed, rarely do we consider the importance of faster and safer braking. This is a very important factor as the standard braking systems on many vehicles is not effective enough with the standard vehicle’s performance. Fitting larger discs and callipers is a very expensive process. We have put together quite an affordable package which is very popular. Using the same (standard) callipers, we replace the discs and pads with performance parts that can handle higher temperatures...
