About Us

Background

carBrothers Martin and Kobus van Rensburg had very successful careers at Nissan South Africa before they started MAUS Performance. Martin managed the Technical Training Centre and was responsible for both employee and dealer staff training. Kobus was involved in the very successful Motorsport Department, and worked specifically on the Nissan Skyline Rally vehicle, building and developing the competition engines, enhancing the power output. The success of the Skyline Rally Cars in the 1980`s speaks for itself – Nissan not only clinched the Class B title on more than one occasion, but also clinched the SA Rally Championship title.

About Maus

Martin is now the sole owner of the business, his son, Francois joined the business in 2004.

Francois heads up the Dyna tuning and Unichip side of the business, after having been trained by his father and uncle and having passed all the necessary courses.

Back in the days it was more carburettor controlled cars, these days the electronic control systems of modern cars is quite advanced. So therefore the change in the business was for the best.

About Engines

The working of an internal combustion engine:

sam-13

In the internal combustion engine chemical energy stored in the form of fuel is converted into kinetic energy in the form of motion. In the engine a fuel/air mixture drawn in through the air intake system is combusted in a combustion chamber (cylinder). Upon combustion the volume of gas in the cylinder increases, which forces the piston downwards. The crank shaft transfers the motion of the pistons through a series of shafts and gears to the drive-wheels. The gas resulting from the combustion exits the engine through the exhaust system.  The quantity of motion is defined as torque and is measured in Newton Meter (N.m).  The torque produced by the engine and delivered to the wheels propels the vehicle.  The rate at which the torque is delivered to the wheels is the power of the engine, and is measured in kilo-Watt (kW).  The torque of a vehicle determines its ability to propel the vehicle and any associated loads, whilst the power determines the rate at which the vehicle accelerates.

dyna Considering the fact that vehicles are mass produced, manufacturer's specified settings are general guidelines and does not consider each engines individual characteristics.  Dyna-tuning is the process whereby the engine settings are adjusted (tuned) while continuously monitoring the performance during the adjustment, in order to obtain the position of optimum performance.  Dyna-tuning optimizes your engines operating parameters, ensuring optimum performance and efficiency. ..

sam-3 We always think of increasing the power of the vehicle to gain speed, rarely do we consider the importance of faster and safer braking. This is a very important factor as the standard braking systems on many vehicles is not effective enough with the standard vehicle’s performance. Fitting larger discs and callipers is a very expensive process. We have put together quite an affordable package which is very popular. Using the same (standard) callipers, we replace the discs and pads with performance parts that can handle higher temperatures...

We do exhaust systems on all makes and models. You can choose between a mild steel or a stainless steel exhaust. The stainless steel exhaust comes with a 5 year warrantee.

We also do cat removals. On newer level cars it is sometimes necessary to fit a Unichip together with the cat removal as the computer can sense if the cats are blocked or open (not there anymore). ..

Petrol Vehicles: On Petrol vehicles we normally have 2 kinds of conversions, namely Stage 1 and Stage 2. On some of the newer vehicles we only do a Stage 1 as it is more cost effective and better value for money to the customer.  Read more

Diesel Vehicles: Normally there is only one kind of conversion for diesel vehicles, and most of the time, with latest diesel vehicles, most modifications are electronic. We rarely change the exhaust systems on diesel vehicles. Read more
